The Crystal Man is one of the best-kept secrets in Glastonbury. It is a haven for mineral collectors and new-age enthusiasts alike, and can be found in Northload Street on the edge of the main shopping area in town. The shop contains a huge variety of minerals and crystals, in a variety of forms from the raw state to polished eggs, spheres, points, and tumblestones. In addition, there is a wide selection of carvings and jewellery to choose from, with many items being hand-created by Mike Jackson, the proprietor of the shop.
Mike, a keen collector from a very early age, also offers a range of fossils, books, craft and lapidary items, and is only too happy to share his vast knowledge of the mineral world with anyone who enters the shop.
Mike's early fascination with minerals, fossils and lapidary has grown over the years to become the remarkable collection you will find in the shop today. From natural minerals to eggs, spheres and wands, the Crystal Man has everything you could wish for and more. Mike and his friendly staff are always on hand to advise you and help you to find your own special treasure in the heart of Avalon.
Mike also designs and handcrafts a large selection of sterling silver jewellery, featuring a wide range of beautiful stones. These exclusive pieces can only be found at the Crystal Man, and include jewellery made with the Mendip Potato Stone, which is collected less than 20 miles from the shop in the Mendip hills.
From collecting his first stone at the age of 6 (from the gravel at the side of his house!) through years of studying, collecting and cutting, Mike is truly 'The Crystal Man'.
People visit the shop from far and wide to seek Mike's expert opinion on all manner of things geological and mineralogical, and he is more than happy to talk about his favourite subject. With a worldwide network of friends who share Mike's enthusiasm for mineral matters, from the Sahara to upstate New York, from Bedouin tribesmen to University professors, Mike's knowledge is constantly expanding, as is his mineral collection.
His abiding passion is Somerset's local gemstone, the Mendip Potato Stone. The shop has the largest collection of potato stone in the world, from rough stones to elegant jewellery and breathtaking carvings.
